For the purposes of Planning Act requirements,
the following person(s) made an oral submission:
Sharlene
Plewman, Executive Director – Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Area (DOBIA),
re: requesting deferral on the matter of flexible (curbless) street options
noting questions relating to the implications of the options and in particular
with: snow removal abilities which may be hindered by the flex street and the bollards,
concern over the added length of time for the project and the implications to
local businesses, functional concerns such as the ability for people to get
into and out of parked cars when parked next to bollards; and requested further
consultation with the DOBIA regarding the finalization of certain aspects of
the project; and filed a written submission.
George Niblock, Oakville Lakeside Residents Association, re: ensuring
that pedestrian crossings are provided for safety reasons and for the benefit
of the downtown, supportive of bump-outs of sidewalks as opposed to PXO
crossings that can create visual clutter with overhead signage and wiring,
supportive of the flex street and noted that parked cars offer pedestrians
safety in terms of separation of sidewalk and road on a curbless roadway, and
supportive of maintaining the 5 or 6 large trees on site.

That the final streetscape plan for the
Lakeshore Road Reconstruction and Streetscape Project (Navy Street to Allan
Street), as detailed in the report from the Engineering and Construction
Department dated March 12, 2018, be received;

2.

That Option 1, as detailed in the staff
report, be approved as the recommended flexible (curbless) street option
for the Lakeshore Road; and
|
|
3.
|
That the existing decorative
streetlight poles/fixtures on Lakeshore Road be replaced with new rather
than refurbishing/reusing the existing.

Ms.
Sharlene Plewman, Executive Director – Downtown Oakville Business Improvement
Area (DOBIA), re: innovative ideas to mitigate implications on local businesses
during construction such as offering free parking, making hoarding attractive
with pictures, tax relief and removal of the BIA levy; and filed a written
submission.

DOBIA in the consultation process for other ideas and initiatives for
wayfinding for downtown Oakville.
