  • Recommendation:

    That the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment and Draft Plan of Subdivision applications submitted by Palermo Village Corporation (File No.: Z.1331.02 and 24T-23002/1331), be refused for the reasons outlined in the report from Planning Services dated December 12, 2023.

(Notice of Motion, Emergency, Congratulatory or Condolence)


In accordance with Section 14.1(2) of the Procedure By-law, the following Notices of Motion will be considered at the next Council meeting to be held on JANUARY 29, 2024:

WHEREAS foreign policy and international development are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government; 


WHEREAS municipal councils are concerned with more local issues; and


WHEREAS, the Town of Oakville values peace and harmony globally and acknowledges the temporary ceasefires in the conflict in Gaza; and


WHEREAS, the Town of Oakville Council recognizes the complex and global nature of this conflict and other global issues and its local impact on our residents; and


WHEREAS, reputable, humanitarian agencies and United Nations spokespersons are expressing deep concern over the deaths, suffering and destruction taking place in this war; and


WHEREAS, Council condemns all acts of hatred including the recent rise in Islamophobia, anti-semitism, Hinduphobia, and Xenophobia; and


WHEREAS, Council is committed to the principles of non-violence, mutual respect, and the promotion of understanding among all community members.


THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town of Oakville Council will continue to advocate for a lasting peace solution, a call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire; and release of all hostages


THAT Council reaffirms its support for ongoing humanitarian efforts to aid those affected by the conflict;


AND THAT Council is dedicated to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all residents.


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT a copy of this resolution be sent to the Prime Minister of Canada, the Minister of Global Affairs, the Minister of International Development, local Halton Members of Parliament and be made available to the public; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be entered into the official records of the Town of Oakville Council and be communicated to the public, affirming the Council’s commitment to global peace, community solidarity, and proactive engagement in matters of international concern.
